In New York, Thomas, works with the FBI using his gift of psychometry, to solve complicated investigations. One day he receives an anonymous parcel containing a small statue. Upon touching it, he sees his brother, Eric, a police lieutenant in Aix-en-Provence is in danger. Thomas must return to France to protect Eric, who is investigating the disappearance of a young girl, presumably kidnapped.

As Eric lies in a hospital bed, Thomas with the help of Léna Ortiz, is determined to find out who shot his brother and why. What is clear to Thomas is that the bullet that shot Eric comes from the same weapon used to kill his parents fifteen years ago. What is the connection to his parents' murder? Didn't he kill their murderer? Did he murder the wrong person? Or is there some other explanation?

Thomas is engaged as a consultant to the criminal brigade of Aix-en-Provence, working alongside Eric and his investigating team. When she returns home, Hélène Spitzer is confronted with a horror scene; Alexandre, her husband, has been murdered and the skin of his face completely removed by the killer. Several hours later Alexandre’s ‘face’ is found in the home of young woman, Elodie Pereira - why?

Léna’s successor, Louise Martel, joins the investigating team, despite her cold attitude Thomas finds himself attracted to the brilliant young women. The body of a young women who has been stabbed to death is discovered by the banks of a lake. Within the arms of the dead women is a baby, alive and kicking - presumably the baby is the victim’s child - however, one, should never presume.

Rage erupts when Louise discovers that Thomas and Eric have ignored her instructions and have quietly continued their private investigation on Patrice Durcret, with the aid of Kléber and Conti. After serious reprimanding they are sent to the scene of a car accident involving two young men; the driver is knocked out, the passenger is dead - evidence indicates he was killed before the car crash.

A man collapses and dies in the street in front of a church, his torso is covered with fresh tattoos of medieval motifs. The man’s death was a result of ink poisoning from the tattoos. To solve the strange riddle, Thomas and Eric must delve into the victim’s past while theirs catches up with them when Patrice Ducret is arrested.

As they move into a newly renovated house, Denis, and his blind daughter Mégane, discover a corpse buried within a wall. While Thomas, Eric and the team investigate the crime scene, a necklace is found. The necklace belongs a woman who disappeared fourteen years ago - an unresolved case. The name of the women who disappeared is Caroline Dubreuil - she is the wife of Denis and mother of Mégane.
