Matilde, a woman in her sixties, has lived with her husband Porfirio since she was 15 years old, in a relationship of violence and contempt. One day, Porfirio dies and leaves her alone in the company of her cat Fidel. Miguel, her neighbor, a young and skilled merchant, will take pity on Matilde and will develop a deep friendship that will help them free themselves from their old beliefs.
