The M56 Highway can be treacherous, icy in winter and dusty in summer. But cold isn't the only enemy. Bears, men and even ghosts are threatening these lorry drivers who always carry guns, vodka and superstitions with them.

In this episode, we follow Jaime and Lupita, two young Salvadorians desperate to make it to the US. Theirs is an emotional rollercoaster, full of hope and fear, as they dodge border police, brave robbers and rapists and face the journey's hardships.

We make the epic journey from Kinshasha, capital of the DRC, to Kisangani, the third largest city in this vast country. The only way to move between the cities is by boat or plane. We join 1,500 people onboard the 'Gbemani', sailing along the Congo River. Without fresh water, electricity, or medicines, it is a perilous voyage.
