Early Humans

We will be focusing on animals that had become extinct just before modern humans reached their location. As well as much older creatures who existed long before hominids even began to evolve. We will be taking an in depth look at some of the most spectacular and extreme examples of these animals; creatures that our ancestors surely would have been astounded by.

In this episode, we will be taking a look at some of our closest cousins, the Denisovans. We will look at the discoveries made by science so far, narrowing down the individuals that have been uncovered from caves across the world. We will explore the life and evolution of Homo heidelbergensis, examining what makes it so similar to our own species. Although this is an archaic human with much to teach us, a wealth of information has been discerned from skeletal evidence found at archaeological dig sites, and we will be examining this information to put together Homo heidelbergensis' story.

How did the earliest members of the modern human species get here? Who did we evolve from? How did we live? Where did we live?
