General Della Rovere

Winner of the Golden Lion in 1959, directed by Rossellini and featuring Vittorio de Sica, the film is based on the true story of a con artist during the height of WWII. Forced by the Nazis to impersonate an Italian resistance leader (General Della Rovere), he infiltrates a group of resistance prisoners and gradually, wrestling with his conscience for the first time, loses himself in his character.
