Goodnight Sweetheart

While traveling through the time portal, Gary is struck by lightning and splits into two: Normal Gary and Bad Gary. Bad Gary stays the night at Yvonne’s place, where he woos her with plans for a night in Paris. But when Bad Gary travels back to the past, Phoebe is less impressed with him.

Yvonne’s new high-powered lifestyle allows the Sparrows to move into a riverside penthouse flat, but when they get into an argument, Yvonne kicks Gary out. Meanwhile, Phoebe worries about Gary’s absences and suspects he’s having an affair.

Gary’s lady loves in both the past and present surprise Gary with plans to move to California. Gary tries to dissuade Phoebe by renting the Blue Door Club, where she can be the singer.

When Noël Coward offers Phoebe a role in his film Brief Encounter, Phoebe wants Gary to perform a song with her in the film, but he refuses. When Noël then hires a professional songwriter, Gary grows jealous.

Gary somehow time travels from the 1940s to the 1880s, where the Royal Oak is a music hall, and the headliner is famous singer Marie Lloyd-who happens to look just like Yvonne. Meanwhile, back in 1944, Reg is blamed for a robbery at Noël Coward’s flat.

When a man enters the shop to take readings of the back wall, Gary panics that the time portal will close. He decides to stay in the 1940s with Phoebe and Michael and gives Ron his shop. Then another mysterious man arrives and offers to buy all of Ron’s inventory.

Gary and Phoebe agree to join an entertainers group performing for British troops in Belgium. Gary asks Ron to spy on Yvonne while he’s gone, convinced that she’s having an affair. When the troupe gets into trouble in Belgium, will Gary’s quick thinking save the day?

Gary and Yvonne worry over Ron, who is devastated by his breakup with his girlfriend and might even be contemplating suicide. Back in 1945, Reg is threatened at the Blue Door Club by two goons demanding protection money.

Yvonne has been asked to judge a book prize, but Gary panics when he discovers a photo of himself with Noël Coward in one of the books. Back in the past, he tries to prevent the photo from ever being taken.

When Yvonne finds an incriminating picture, she follows Gary to his shop and makes a startling discovery. A few nights before VE Day, Gary is at a party with future prime minister Clement Attlee when he makes a quick choice that has monumental consequences.
