Great American Railroad Journeys

Unstoppable adventurer and traveler Michael Portillo continues his epic trek across the US by rail. Using his 1879 Appleton's General Guide to the United States, on this leg he’s journeying from Missouri to Tennessee. Along the way he ascends the St Louis Gateway Arch, joins a baseball team, chases storms in Tornado Alley and experiences one of the greatest sights on earth: The Grand Canyon.
