After a setback on Broadway, director Charlie Summers returns to his hometown of Tauranga, New Zealand, where he reluctantly joins the amateur musical theater society Pizazz, led by his devoted mother, Gaye.

Charlie's desperation to get back to Broadway sees him drawn into Pizazz's rehearsals for "The Trojan Horse," and clashing with director Adrian over composer Gloria's vision for the musical.
