In the season premiere, sixteen chefs vie for the position of head chef at the luxurious L.A. Market in downtown Los Angeles. The contestants meet the new maître d' and prepare their signature dishes for Chef Ramsay.

Chef Ramsay brings in world-renowned chef Masaharu Morimoto for a demonstration, then challenges the aspiring chefs to recreate his salmon cucumber avocado rolls and tuna nigari to exacting standards. The winning team enjoy a wine tasting and sunset dinner while the losing team prepares sushi for the next day's dinner service.

The thirteen contestants must prepare breakfast for fifty hungry EMTs. The winning team enjoy a poolside lunch and a trip to trapeze school while the losers polish 250 pieces of stemware and clean both kitchens.

Hell's Kitchen hosts the Beverly Hills High School prom with a theme of "Old Hollywood." The teams must prepare a menu of one appetizer and two entrees. The winners spend a day at the amusement park while the losing team redecorates Hell's Kitchen for the prom.

To shake things up, Chef Ramsay swaps out members from both teams. For the episode's challenge, each chef must create a unique salad; the team with the most favored salad wins.

The contestants must name the ingredients that are labelled on a spinning roulette wheel. Chef Ramsay then asks them to prepare dishes using the ingredients that they named. The winners visit Las Vegas while the losers peel 1,000 potatoes. Guests at the dinner service include Jerry Springer and members of Chef Ramsay's family.

The teams must shop on a budget and prepare elegant dishes for four judges. The winners go sailing and dancing while the losers fumigate Hell's Kitchen. At the black-tie dinner service commemorating the hundredth episode of "Hell's Kitchen," guests include four previous winners and cast members from "Glee."

Chef Ramsay tests the contestants' palates by having them taste fast food items disguised as five-star hotel cuisine. He then challenges them to a blind taste test. The winners enjoy a day of shopping and a sumptuous dinner while the losers sort trash for recycling.

To test their teamwork skills, Chef Ramsay challenges the contestants to cook three appetizers in thirty minutes with only minimal communication in between every dish. The winners go on a shopping spree at a cooking store while the losers are stuck with delivery duty.

Each chef has thirty minutes to create five servings of an amuse-bouche to be judged by five notable Los Angeles chefs. The winning contestant gets a tour of L.A. Market while the losers have to prep the kitchen and clean the dorms.

The remaining contestants must serve their signature dish out of a food truck to a group of businesspeople. The winner gets a Beverly Hills makeover by hairstylist José Eber and fashion guru Steven Cojocaru while the losers scrub their trucks and prepare for the dinner service.

Using only their eyesight, their noses and their taste buds, the four remaining chefs must re-create a dish without a recipe. The winner spends a day at a spa while the losers do Hell's Kitchen's laundry before it's time for another dinner service.

The chefs must create fusion dishes by mixing cuisines from two different countries. The winner has a dinner date with Chef Ramsay and their family while the losers participate in "moving day," clean the dorms and prep for the evening's dinner service.

The remaining contestants prepare five-course meals that are judged by five L.A. top chefs and food service executives. Who will be offered the head chef position at Los Angeles' L.A. Market?
