Professional adventurers Jim and Tori Baird have made a career out of exploring the wilderness. But they’ve never taken their children with them, until now. Determined to forge a life in the wild for their family, the Bairds set off on a canoe trip to a remote spot. But facing dangerous rapids and sheer cliffs with two kids in tow makes this journey more challenging than any they’ve faced before.

After a day of foraging on their French River trip, Jim must rappel the canoe down a cliff to reach camp. Tori notices Wesley making more eye contact while out in nature. With Hudson’s birthday approaching they strike out early to reach their float plane in time to make it home for his party. But a stretch of rapids block their way and Tori must solo them to see the canoe to safety.

The Bairds set out with the kids on their most ambitious family adventure yet, a canoe trip to Island Lake, where they’ll be scouting possible sites to build an off-grid cabin. Jim crafts a sail to help them navigate the waterways, but bad weather and a maze of beaver swamps threaten to cut their journey short.

The Bairds find their way out of the beaver swamp and arrive at Island Lake just as the sun is setting. After a cold, rainy night in their tent, Jim forages for supplies and then he and Tori prepare for a long day of canoeing. Their destination is an island property that’s for sale where they may want to build an off-grid cabin.
