Hotel Adlon

In 1904, unmarried teenager Alma Schadt gives birth to a daughter, Sonja. To avoid scandal, Alma’s parents—Gustaf and Otille Schadt, friends and patrons of Lorenz Adlon—pretend the child is their own.

Sonja moves into Hotel Adlon, experiencing the hedonistic parties of the 1920s. When the Nazis come to power, her precarious situation is further threatened when she falls in love with Julian, a Jewish pianist and left-wing journalist.

While Julian is arrested, Sonja learns she is pregnant with their child. When he is released 3 years later, believing Sonja has betrayed him, Julian is deported, taking their daughter with him to Israel.
