After the death of her mother in-law, Mary, Charlie sets out a plan, which involves deceiving her husband, Wesley, and his family, into thinking that Mary left a list of rules for the family to follow in the lead up to Christmas. Wanting to believe their mother left some guidance to help heal the wounds of her absence the family comes together and starts following the rules to the letter.
