From the Classic Movie Docs library- John Hurt's first major role was in 1966's A Man for All Seasons which won the Academy Award for Best Picture that year. However, it was his portrayal of Quentin Crisp in the 1975 TV play, The Naked Civil Servant, that shot him to fame and earned him the BAFTA Award for Best Actor. His well known roles include the title role in The Elephant Man and Alien.
