Modern times, in a small town, where two families lead diametrically opposite lives. The Le Quesnoys are a pious and bourgeois couple. They form a well to do family who's five children were brought up to respect God and their parents. The Groseilles, a family of modest means, lives in a four room apartment in a working class neighbourhood. The father is out of a job.
