Life with Derek

Casey starts dating Derek's best friend Sam, and things seem to be going well - until she chooses Sam over her best friend Emily as her French project partner, and Sam chooses homework with Casey over a hockey game with his best friend Derek.

As penance for his latest misdemeanor, Derek is ordered to coach Lizzie in hockey. Casey is jealous of Derek's apparent new relationship with Lizzie, so she offers to coach Edwin on the art of attracting girls - specifically, Tanya, the beautiful captain of Lizzie's team. As Casey and Derek vie for the spot of best coach, Derek pushes Lizzie hard, and Casey gives Edwin a makeover.

Casey and Sam are constantly breaking up and getting back together. But when they break up for good, Sam's ability to play hockey is threatened and the team could lose the chance to win a trip to Sweden. According to Edwin's research, Sam's emotional state affects his ability to score goals and, right now, things aren't looking too good.

Appalled by her fellow students' apathy, and buoyed by Lizzie's environmental activism, Casey decides to run against nerdy Sheldon Shlepper for Student Council President. Emily warns Casey that the move could ruin her budding reputation, and suggests she find a geek to carry her message for her. Instead, Casey decides to put a "cool" spin on running for office by recruiting Derek for the job.

Derek has to find a lead singer quickly if his band D-Rock is going to have a chance at winning the Clash of the Bands. After countless auditions, he finally decides in desperation that Casey would be perfect for the job.

While Nora and George are trying to teach Marti the importance of telling the truth, Casey is taking lessons on lying from Derek in order to get an extension on a school project. She tells her teacher, Mrs. Pummelman, that she's been busy caring for her sick dog Bob and, at first, she thinks she'll get away with the lie.

Lizzie has a crush on Scott, her super-cute soccer coach, but it's Casey that Scott asks out on a date. Casey finally spots the tell-tale signs that Lizzie is experiencing her first big crush, and half-heartedly promises to stop seeing Scott. But heart-broken Lizzie realizes that Scott is too old for her, and gives Casey the green light to keep seeing him.

Casey is prankster Derek's victim of choice. Ignoring him doesn't work, so Casey decides to fight fire with fire. She teams with an accomplice and, in a bold move, steals all the furniture from new principal Lassiter's office. Everyone believes Derek did it; and Derek finally decides to take the credit for what everyone thinks is his best prank ever.

While Casey is freaking out about her upcoming dance competition, Derek is freaking out about his pending hockey playoffs. The competition is set for Saturday - the same day Derek's hockey playoffs start. So, for the next two days, Casey and Derek are freaked out at the same time and, as always, Lizzie and Edwin take the brunt of it.

In Derek's world, everything's a contest and, normally, Casey wants no part of it. But when Derek accuses her of being a preppie who's afraid to come out of her comfort zone, Casey bets him that she can get neo-punk Trevor to ask her out. Casey undergoes a dramatic transformation from preppie to punk, and pretends to like Trevor in order to win the bet.

In an effort to improve her grades, super-cool Kendra asks Casey to be her partner on a poetry assignment. During a study session, Kendra meets Derek, and is instantly attracted to Casey's immature, funny step-brother. But when Casey finds out that the feeling is mutual, she decides to get back at Derek for all his childish pranks by sabotaging the love connection.

Missing her dad, who is currently based in N.Y., Casey invites him to dinner the next time he's in town. Like her dad always said, 'if you're going to do something, do it right' so Casey sets out to make things perfect. She even bribes Derek to go out for the evening so he can't spoil things. Expectations are high, but if things go well, then maybe her dad will visit again.

Casey feels alone in a couple's world, so Derek's girlfriend Kendra offers to play matchmaker. But when Kendra tries to find out what kind of guy Casey would like, Derek intentionally steers her in the wrong direction and the results are disastrous. To find suitable candidates for Casey, Kendra has posted a "Help Wanted" flyer at school.
