After her mother's death, young Pursy Will returns to her childhood home in New Orleans. Two of her mother's friends, emeritus literature professor Bobby Long and his young protégé Lawson Pines, have made themselves comfortable in the house. Pines is writing a novel about Bobby Long's life.
