Dr. Fanshawe (Mark Letheren, Stage Beauty, Delicious), a historian and archaeologist, is hired by Squire Richards (Pip Torrens, Price and Prejudice, The Crown) to inspect a catalog of artifacts. When he finds that his binoculars are broken in his luggage, he must use a pair from the Squire. Through the new pair, Fanshawe makes an unsettling discovery by the monastery and decides to investigate.

A retired astronomer James Parkin (John Hurt, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) leaves his ailing wife in a nursing home and returns to one of their favorite holiday towns. After making a mysterious discovery on a deserted beach, he notices he is being watched and inexplicable events begin to transpire.

A historian, Professor Anderson (Greg Wise, Johnny English), stays in a quaint English cathedral town to authenticate some historical papers. After ignoring that the room numbers mysteriously jump from 12 to 14, he is awoken suddenly by sounds in the night that lead him directly to room 13. He has no choice but to open the door.
