Mahmut & Meryem

In Gence during 1514, Ziyad Khan the sultan of Karabag has been in power for 23 years and now he is concerned about the future of the Sultanate. His wife, Kamerbanu, is unable to give him an heir to the throne. After many years she finally becomes pregnan with Ziyad Khan's son, Mahmut.

Mahmut falls in love with Meryem, the daughter of a Christian monk and it is this love that he cherishes. Mahmut's attitude is worrisome for Ziyad Khan, who wants to see his son as emperor. Meryem's father tries to keep Meryem away from Mahmut because of the religious differences.

Mahmut witnesses destructive effects of Ziyad Khan's cruel policies over his people, sees the devastation created by ongoing war and he becomes disillusioned of the peaceful life he believed existed outside the castle walls. As he continues his quest for Meryem, his step brother murders Ziyad Khan and declares himself as the new ruler.

Mahmut finally manages to catch up with Meryem. But once again, they get separated by a group of assassins sent by his step brother Bayındır. While trying to save Meryem and her father's life, He almost loses his own. In hopes of curing his daughter from this "love disease", Meryem's father turns to dark forces. A wedding is arranged but Meryem's father has other plans.
