Matlock

Director of an amateur stage production, Doug Michaels fires would-be actor Ben Matlock from his role as a detective, claiming he’s seen “kumquats with more talent.” However, the tables soon turn when Michaels is accused of murdering the leading lady. He then realizes Matlock’s true talents and hires him to plead his innocence.

True or false? Did conman Adam Spangler really shoot and kill a helpless woman for her jewelry as an eyewitness swears he did, or were the unidentified fingerprints of another man the true clue to the murder? It’s a race against time as Matlock tries to save Spangler from being executed for a murder he claims he never committed.

Against Matlock’s approval, his associate, Cliff Lewis, advertises for and gets a private client. He is hired by a flaky woman who proceeds to fall in love with Cliff while suing her plastic surgeon. The surgeon is the victim of a scheme involving family greed and is murdered when he finds out too much.

Dozing off into the nostalgic world of the 1930’s, Matlock dreams he’s a washed-up, hard-drinking lawyer defending a nightclub owner accused of shooting a saxophone player named Slick, played by guest star Jeff Conaway. It seems Slick was romancing the band’s beautiful lead singer – who just happened to be the club owner's wife!

While Ben is trying to find his friend who was kidnapped, he realizes that an FBI agent is being framed for that crime and more. Now Ben must free the agent from suspicion of murder.

The church choir hits a sour note when parishioner Wally McDaniel's, is accused of murder. Temporarily in charge of the choir, Matlock stumbles on McDaniel's’ habit of dabbling in rare books – copies that don’t belong to him! When the teacher who blew the whistle on McDaniel's is found murdered, guess who the number one suspect is?

Amidst the beauty of a luxurious island mansion, a mystery game for charity quickly evolves into a puzzling murder when Matlock discovers the “victim” is really dead!

A budding friendship between two great lawyers blossoms into animosity when Matlock and District Attorney Brennen square off on a murder trial. Not only does Matlock believe in his client’s innocence, he thinks Brennen might be the one who’s guilty!

Thanks to Matlock a struggling private investigator, played by guest star George Peppard, reunites with his long-lost daughter and she’s just the person he’s been looking for! Together they investigate a mysterious trail of clues to solve the toughest murder case of his career, while building a relationship that changes their lives forever.
