When a miner, Charley 'Boomer' Baxter (Eriq La Salle of TV's ER), sets off a series of massive mining detonations in West Virginia, it's discovered that a gigantic earthquake will shortly obliterate the North Atlantic. This soon exposes a deep seismic fault that runs the length of the North American continent.
