FBI Detective Vera Muller arrives from the U.S to help Chief of Police Alexandre Dias with a case involving a string of sadistic murders. Across town, charming young attourney Eduardo Borges joins the campaign team of Conservative Senator Oto Veiga. That night, the killer claims his next victim, a young woman named Angela. When Vera calls Angela’s mobile, Oto’s son Junior answers the call.

Angela’s boyfriend insists the investigation team examin a lighter he believes belongs to the killer. When the results come in, Vera is led to the office of Senator Oto. A damning story regarding the Senator is leaked to the press and Oto is furious. Assuming it to be underhand election tactics from the opposition, Oto heads in search of his rival Aurélio Mendes.

Edu comes face to face with Angela’s distraught boyfriend and together they help the police sketch out an image of the serial killer. The police want to question Oto over a recent attack and Dias and his team think they have found their suspect when they uncover some new CCTV footage.

Vera’s team try to trace an email sent by the serial killer. Edu, meanwhile, does his research on the tenacious new detective. The police receive information that leads them to the body of the latest victim, Edu contocts a plan to stick close to Vera’s investigation and Ray is driven insane by Edu’s sudden disappearance.

Dias and Vera’s history puts a strain on their woking relationship. Ray is rushed to hospital and Oto comes under increasing pressure to name a successor when a damning email appears in the press. Assis suspects a leak within his team and Ivan finds himself in grave danger.

Dias becomes jealous of Edu when Silvia invites him to tea. A reporter goes to the police with a message from the serial killer and Edu begins to feel nervous. Dina warns Ray over Edu and the police fall into a trap set by the serial killer. Dias’ daughter Tati, meanwhile, begins to suspect him of having an affair with Vera.

Silvia suggests Oto replace Assis with Edu. Vera sets a trap for the serial killer while Edu plans his next move. Celine admits she has misgivings about Edu and Dina goes to the police with some infomation. Very soon, Vera also becomes suspicous of Edu.

A stunned Vera reveals the contents of Ray’s report to Dias. Dias immediately calls Dina back in for questioning. Vera reveals that she suspects the serial killer to be among the investigation team but they suffer a setback when Ray retracts her statement.

Vera is becoming increasingly suspicous of Edu. The escaped victim recognizes a picture of Edu in the newspaper. Edu tries to manipulate Vera but when Nelson shows the weapons that were found in Edu's car to Dias, he heads out to arrest him.

Celina throws Dias out when he admits to having an affair with Vera. Dias and Vera take Edu in for questioning and Vera tries to convince Ray to testify againsts him. When Dias makes a shock discovery on Edu’s phone, he loses his temper.

When Dias’ daughter Tati overhears a conversation between Dias and Celina, she flees in Celina’s car. But Celina intercepts her and the pair discover a bomb inside Edu’s backpack. Now Tati is involved, Dias wants to resign from the Case but Vera talks him round and Elda ientifies blood on Edu’s boot.

Having taken a hostage, Edu is making demands of the police team. Dias heads to the prison, submitting to all Edu’s requests. Edu escapes and takes his hostage with him. Dias holds a press conference while the police frantically search for Edu. They are hot on his heels, but Edu is not without his supporters.

Edu’s mother rushes to her son’s side. Edu’s trial begins and he asks to act as his own defender. Very soon, the case seems to be going in his favor. But Dias’ team are working hard to build a substantiated case against him and the US consulate arrive with a dossier on Edu.
