Mind Over Money

In this first episode Nigel dives right into the deep end as he tries to understand why humans get so weird with money? Why is it so weird to talk about? And why do we do things with money, which don't make any kind of rational sense at all? Along the way we'll meet a caveman and uncover some of the strangest things we do with money.

They say that money can't buy you happiness, but is that true? In this episode Nigel talks with some recent millionaires, meets a family who seem to have cracked the code for buying happiness, finds out why paying for things feels so painful, and the Nudge Unit throws a weirdly named TV Game Show in someone's kitchen to help overcome an extreme case of buyer's remorse.

This is something a lot of us do, and something that causes all kinds of problems in our lives. So why do we spend money we don't have, and what can we do about it? In this episode Nigel reveals how our cave brains can lead us into poor decisions and some simple ways to overcome that. We'll demonstrate why our brains don't always think $5 is $5.

We all know we should save, but most of us aren't saving anywhere near enough. Why? Because saving is boring. Our brains have a surprising response to saving, and in this episode Nigel sets out to find out why we don't like saving, and how we can get better at it. Along the way he's going to take lollipops off little kids and show us all how we fudge the books inside our own heads.

One of the most important things we can do for our children is to help them be better with money. In this episode Nigel discovers all kind of surprising things about how we should talk to our kids about money. He'll also show us something that Einstein reportedly said was "the eighth wonder of the world", and may be one of the most important things you can ever teach your kids about money.
