When 34-year-old Israel Keyes was pulled over by police, he had no idea that his crime spree was about to be foiled. After slaying an 18-year-old, he had collected ransom money from her family and was quickly found by authorities with dye-stained bills from a bank robbery, a gun, and the victim's phone and debit card.

When the police were called to a house on the corner of Beachcomber Lane in Clear Lake, Texas, in 2001, they had no idea what they would find. Inside, they were treated to a scene that would haunt them for the rest of their lives: a mother standing over the bodies of her five children. 36-year-old Andrea Yates immediately confessed to the crime.

When police searched the workshop of John Haigh in the spring of 1949, they weren't sure what they would find. A gambler with a lengthy criminal history - including charges of theft and fraud -, many saw Haigh as a conman, but nobody saw him as a killer.

In the autumn of 1978, Cheryl Bradshaw appeared on the hit TV show The Dating Game, which had been running since the 1960s. The show generally featured a single woman who would speak with three bachelors and choose one of them to date. Cheryl picked the first bachelor - photographer Rodney Alcala. But upon meeting him backstage, Cheryl realised that her perfect man was not Prince Charming.

On August 9th, 1969, members of Charles Manson's cult - known as The Manson Family -, broke into the Beverly Hills home of movie director Roman Polanski. Inside, they attacked and took the lives of five separate individuals, including Sharon Tate, Roman's wife who was eight-and-a-half months pregnant.

When the true identity of the infamous Yorkshire Ripper was revealed in 1981, the public breathed a sigh of relief. Peter Sutcliffe, the man behind the heinous slayings of at least thirteen women, had finally been apprehended and would no longer be a threat. But after the relief dissolved, it gave way to questions and criticism.
