Traveling down the length of California, Simon Reeve explores the redwood forests where drought has created the ideal conditions for fire, uncovers the dark underbelly of Hollywood's glamorous image and discovers off-the-grid living in the harsh desert.

Simon Reeve joins the Texas Border Patrol to witness the dangers of illegally crossing into the United States. Then in Mexico, Simon discovers a city in the grip of organized crime and uncovers the marginalization of the country's indigenous people.

Simon Reeve continues his journey by diving through a coral reef off the coast of northern Belize and visiting a rescue center for manatees. Then in Central America, he discovers how climate change has affected farming, gang violence and eco-tourism.
