One Born Every Minute Australia

In Australia, each new year delivers over three hundred thousand new lives. In the busy birth unit at Westmead hospital, the midwives see it all, from beautiful natural births, to high risk births and unexpected emergencies. Now in an Australian first, One Born Every Minute, has unprecedented access to the unit, with 60 high tech cameras, rolling 24/7.

We meet Akaysha and Grant, a clear case of opposites attracting. Akaysha is bubbly, hilarious and bluntly outspoken when it comes to her bodily functions and her pregnancy. Grant is her more reserved and gentle foil. They are having their second baby and Akaysha is determined to have a natural birth.

We follow three different couples experiences with birth and how it affects their relationships. We follow Alexandra and Chris' as they drive to the hospital for a planned C-section. Alexandra struggles with the fact she can't have a natural birth. Blake and Janet on the other hand couldn't be more prepared.

We experience one of the rarities of birth, when midwife Courtney delivers a baby born inside its gestational sack. We join Caseload midwife Tylah as she guides Lauren and Kirrin through the birth of their third son. Bubbly young couple Allara and Thomas are in the birth unit for the birth of their first child.

We experience a torchlight birth, as Renee and Mark turn the lights down and get out the essential oils, to deliver their second son au naturel. First time parents Xy-Za and Mickey are winging it. And Midwife Emma A is there to guide the couple and their bubbly sister Joy through the process, to deliver their first baby girl.

In this episode, we examine the different types of support a mother can receive during labour as three new families embark upon their birth journeys. First, we meet Kimberley and Jason, bubbly newlyweds who have done little preparation for their birth - other than to find out that they are expecting a boy.

In this episode, we follow the story of Nina and Oscar, as Nina comes into the unit with Braxton Hicks contractions at 35 weeks. Midwives can't stop the contractions so Nina will give birth to a preemie baby - surfacing fears and bad memories from the tense birth of her first child.

Midwife Maria gives us her view of the birth unit as a big family, we see how midwives support each other and the couples during the birthing processes. First up, Maria connects with Rebeca and Paul, a deeply in love couple looking to deliver their second child in a water birth. Maria instantly bonds with the couple, and the atmosphere in the room is warm and wonderful.
