When young Norman Binns is admitted to Dr. Thorpe's hospital ward, long-time resident Roy Figgis attempts to trick him into swapping beds so he can finally have the window view.

Norman's nerves get the best of him before surgery when Figgis scares him with doom-laden talk of operations gone awry and Dr. Thorpe arrives haggard and sleep-deprived.

When Dr. Thorpe tells Gupte that "Victor" is at death's door, the nurse mistakenly believes he's talking about his son, not his dog, and the rumor soon spreads like wildfire.

Glover has a tryst with a woman named Anna, and when her fiancé Nico arrives at the hospital for revenge, it's up to Figgis to step in and save Archie's skin.

Norman forms a crush on the new nurse Sally but faces stiff competition from Glover, Dr. Thorpe and Gupte.

The patients decide to go on a hunger strike to protest the abysmal hospital food.

After Glover is discharged, an unhappy Figgis disguises himself as a doctor and goes to a nearby pub to prescribe fake diagnoses, filling the hospital ward with potential new rivals.
