Ash Ketchum gets his Pokemon journey off to a rough start when he receives his first Pokemon, the reluctant Pikachu. However when Ash gets attacked by a flock of Spearow, Pikachu steps in and saves Ash.

Ash rushes into Viridian City with his gravely wounded Pikachu. The city's on high alert for Pokemon thieves of Team Rocket, a group of bad guys dedicated to stealing valuable Pokemon.

Ash catches a Caterpie. However, Misty's bug phobia makes her uneasy. Though Ash captures a Pidgeotto, Team Rocket appear once more to get the Pokemon for themselves.

After the Caterpie evolves into a Metapod, Ash and Misty meet a samurai, who wants to test Ash's skill. In the middle of the fight, a swarm of Beedrill take Ash's Metapod away.

Ash and Misty arrive in Pewter City, where Ash aims to win his first Gym Badge. His opponent, Brock is a skilled Gym Leader and Ash almost loses the battle.

Brock has joined Ash and Misty on the journey. On their way to the next city, they meet a scientist, Seymour. Seymour believes that the Pokemon they saw, Clefairy, is from outer space.

Misty attempts to stop Ash from going to Cerulean City. Ash goes to encounters the Cerulan City's Gym Leader sisters. Misty appears to challenge Ash. Will Ash be able to defeat her?

After receiving the two badges, Ash encounters an unofficial Gym led by AJ. AJ manages to defeat Ash. Ash disagrees with his training style. Ash attempts to persuade AJ to seek a new path.

Ash and Misty run into students of the Pokemon Tech school. Misty challenges a girl, Giselle to a battle to prove the importance of battles, as compared to simulation.

The heroes spot an Oddish, which Ash tries to capture, if it weren't for a Bulbasaur. They trigger traps, which Melanie, a caretaker has set to stop Team Rocket. Will Bulbasaur save the village?

The heroes encounter a Charmander laying on a rock. Ash, Brock and Misty save the Charmander from the rain ask Nurse Joy to treat it. Charmander does not want to abandon his trainer and goes to him.

A group of Squirtle are creating a trouble around the town. Team Rocket are attacked, but Meowth manages to persuade the Squirtle to capture everyone. Ash's Pikachu gets hurt but Squirtle spares him.

Ash is depressed to hear that his previous achievements are of no use. He manages to capture a Krabby. The heroes go to a nearby lighthouse and meet Bill, who tells them of a mysterious Pokemon.

The heroes make it to Vermilion City. Ash, Brock and Misty go inside the Gym and meet the giant, Lt. Surge. Lt. Surge's Raichu is quite powerful and defeats Pikachu. Ash is offered a Thunder Stone.

Team Rocket give heroes the tickets to the cruise ship, St. Anne. A gentleman offers Ash to trade for a Butterfree. James buys a Magikarp.Team Rocket attacks the trainers and the ship begins to sink.

The heroes and Team Rocket are in a sinking ship and agree to work together. James feels that his Magikarp is useless and abandons it. The Magikarp to evolve into Gyarados and is not happy with ill-treatment.

The heroes and Team Rocket are lost in an island where they lose their Pokemon. The Pokemon wanders around the island. To make things worse, they encounter a gigantic Pokemon, who do not listen to them.

The heros meet Nastina, who plans to build a hotel on a barrier reef and is trying to get rid of some squids, Tentacool. Misty tries hard to protect the Tentacool. Team Rocket attempts to get rid of Tentacool.

James and Brock spot a woman at the port and get influenced by her gaze and spend a night at the Maiden's Peak. They start to behave weirdly, so Jessie, Meowth, Misty and Ash too join them and see a ghost.

Ash, Brock and Misty encounter a group of Butterfree that want to lay eggs with their mates. Ash's Butterfree falls in love with a pink Butterfree but she refuses him. Team Rocket steal all the Butterfree.

Pikachu is captured by Team Rocket. A girl paralyzes them and gets Pikachu back to Ash. Sabrina, the Saffron City's Gym Leader, sends Abra, who evolves into a Kadabra. Ash is adamant to defeat Sabrina.

Ash goes to Lavender town in the Pokemon tower to catch a Ghost Type Pokemon to win against the gym leader, Sabrina. Team Rocket keep an eye on the heroes. Haunter appears and decides to join Ash to help him win.

Ash goes to challenge Sabrina but Haunter disappears and runs away. Misty and Brock are turned into dolls. Pikachu goes to battle Kadabra. Haunter, however, goes to Sabrina, wanting to show her something.

After learning his rival, Gary, has caught more Pokemon, Ash goes with his friends to Celadon City. He encounters a Mankey and attempts to capture it. It gets mad, evolves into a Primeape and chases Ash.
