Gordon comes to rescue Ruby Tates, a fancy oyster bar in Brighton that's burdened by a soft owner, lackadaisical chefs and no leadership.

Gordon goes to Paris in hopes of helping a petite vegetarian restaurant in the heart of a meat-loving country, but winds up working it alone thanks to a lazy boss and hemorrhaging staff.

The Priory, a former chapel of a 19th century convent, boasts a spectacularly beautiful location and bargain roast dinners from a carvery that's been running for twenty years. But despite the heavenly atmosphere, the food is straight from hell: recycled meat, synthetic sauces and soup in a bucket.

The Fish and Anchor, a pub near Lampeter in rural West Wales, is helmed by ex-boxer Mike and his wife Caron. Mike, a self-taught chef, struggles to accommodate a vast menu. Meanwhile, Caron's unique style of front-of-house management includes abusing the customers and her husband in equal measure.

Gordon visits the Curry Lounge in Nottingham, a city with more restaurants per square mile than any other in Britain. This 110-seat Indian eatery is run by ex-sales director Raz, who's new to the business - and it shows. Despite a £500,000 refurbishment and décor like a Bollywood set, the honeymoon period is well and truly over.

The Granary, a 200-seat upmarket restaurant in rural Hampshire, is the biggest Gordon has ever taken on. This eatery promises classy British cuisine, but a fussy international menu has kept locals at bay. Head chef Martin doubles as parole officer to his unruly teenage charges in the kitchen, while owner Nigel stubbornly struggles to contain the front-of-house chaos that he's created.
