Redemption

When the body of young Ettore Frediani is found along a bank, everyone figures it was a suicide. His father Valerio, an ex-cop, is shattered by grief.

Valerio’s ex-colleague and ex-paramour, Sara, points out that what Ettore left behind does not suggest he died by suicide.

Valerio does some snooping to figure out who was on duty the night of Ettore’s death, and winds up on the receiving end of the Chief Commissioner seething contempt.

The further Valerio digs the more frustrated he becomes at the inconsistencies.

While Ettore’s computer is analyzed by Forensics, Sara identifies the missing beggars. Valerio tracks them down at a substance abuse recovery center.

After being knocked out, Valerio comes to his senses only to find out Ettore’s computer has disappeared from the police lab and someone has published Ettore’s diary online.

The shoe that Valerio found along the banks of the Tiber shows traces of another place.

Against everyone's advice, Valerio carries on his investigation. Secretly obtaining surveillance images from a video camera, he discovers something suspicious.
