Sleepers

In 2013, the Russian Embassy is sacked by militants in Libya. At CIA headquarters, Mr. Bradfield instructs Jack, his colleague, to go to Moscow and "wake up" a group of "sleepers", i.e. American agents who look to prevent the conclusion of a significant Russian-Chinese contract. Meanwhile, Andrey Rodionov, an FSB officer, uncovers plans of a terrorist attack being prepared in Moscow.

Human rights activist, Peter Asmolov, is assumed to be dead after his car exploded following his disclosure of the Russian-Chinese contract and claims of corruption. Sasha, a blogger, captured the explosion on video and looks to sell the footage to news outlets. Meanwhile, Bradfield arrives in Moscow and discovers that none of the recent tragedies are coincidental.

Andrey's group studies a video showing the threat of a terrorist attack. Ivan Zhyravlev meets Konstantin Mishin who restores the video of Asmolov's kidnapping and looks to publish it online. The video causes an unexpected storm on social media, which Andrey Rodionov and his team soon realize was organized by one of the sleepers.

Inspector Gazaryan shares his suspicions with Andrey that information was leaked by somebody working in the FSB during the process of the investigation. Ignatiev, Deputy Prime Minister, demands that the FSB discloses any available information on the investigation of Asmolov's case.

The FSB gives a briefing on the progress of the Asmolov investigation. Andrey realizes that the gas contract of Energy Corporation with China is the target of the multiway operation in which the Foreign Ministry and possibly other spies at the highest level are involved. Nefedov checks employees of "Energy" corporation to see if somebody could be connected with the Libyan tragedy.

Andrey finds information on the sleepers. He reveals the ties between the agents: each is connected with the departed Ruzheinikov who taught at MGIMO. Andrey asks Nefedov for permission to detain the suspects.

The multiway operation arranged by Bradfield reaches its conclusion. Mishin is ready to drive people to a rally against the FSB, which from the public's point of view is guilty in the murder of Asmolov. Lena and Slava prepare for the terrorist attack. Meanwhile, Andrey talks to one of the most dangerous sleepers: the true mole in the FSB.

Bradfield is declared persona non grata and is expelled from the country. Slava carries out the planned terroristic act at the crowded rally. Slava, who was unmasked by Rodionov, takes Troitskaya hostage. The network of spies is finally disclosed.
