On the eve of her interview for Head of Homicide, Mackenzie falls victim to a grifter, who drugs and kidnaps her. She wakes the next morning in a taxi, with no memory of the previous evening, her handbag missing and still reeling with nausea from the effects of the drugs. She races to make it to her interview, but is forced to excuse herself when nausea again overcomes her.

When the Undercovers identify office cleaner Marty Engle as a suspect in a drug importation murder, Angie goes undercover to develop a relationship with him. Knowing Marty has been interviewed by Homicide, drug king-pin Dion Styles threatens him and his daughter with dire consequences if Marty talks. When Marty goes after Styles to kill him, Angie intervenes, revealing to Marty she's a cop.

Feeling alone and out of control in her pregnancy, Danni responds to an advertisement offering counselling to distressed pregnant women. What starts out as a straightforward counselling session develops into a veiled offer to buy Danni's baby and sell it to a childless couple.

Following a chance encounter with the grifter who drugged and abducted her on the eve of her Head of Homicide interview, Mackenzie is more determined than ever to find out who he is and why he targeted her. She secretly hands her watch in to Fingerprints, hoping that during their encounter the grifter has left prints.

Stone enlists a live-wire young prostitute named Brittany to help get information on a wannabe drug king, Mick Dooley, and through him a big player named Adrian Small. Brittany already has a 'relationship' with the volatile Dooley, which Stone seeks to exploit. But controlling Brittany is not easy.

As the Undercover Unit focuses on a major drug importing gang, Angie is shocked to find the familiar face of her younger sister Sam high on the list of associated drug couriers. Angie has to make a difficult decision - let the sting go ahead and risk Sam being arrested, or manipulate events to ensure Sam's freedom. Familial loyalty prevails and she chooses the latter option.

Gary Edgerton, a former Undercover, is the key witness in the trial of major crim Samuel Madigan. But Edgerton is a reluctant witness, and Danni must go undercover both to protect him from Madigan and prepare him for the trial. But after an attempt on his life, Edgerton loses his nerve and bolts.

Lois Dunlap looking for a hit man, so Stone goes undercover to provide her with one. But she reneges on the deal, and it looks as though she has changed her mind; that is, until a couple of large withdrawals are made on the joint bank account she shares with her husband.

Angie is Undercover in Homicide, angling to win Harry Love's trust with the ultimate goal of being assigned to investigate John Murray's murder. Mackenzie has been framed for the murder, but believes Love is behind it - although proving it is bound to be a difficult task. Posing as a Homicide Detective, Angie has to solve a bizarre triple Homicide with Love watching her every move.

When Harry Love locates a witness who says she heard Mackenzie threaten to kill John Murray, it looks like he's in a position to make his final move against her. With Andrew Bligh looking over their shoulders, the other Undercovers put into play a desperate plan to catch Love out.

Undercover teams up with Armed Robbery in an attempt to bust a violent robbery ring. Church uses informant Marty Engle to gain the confidence of the gang leader but is forced to bow out when a shot gun is placed in his hands and he is directed to rob a convenience store. Undercover seems to have blown the case when Angie manages to get herself into the ring.

Reg Masters has requested Undercover assistance on a drug bust to nail a gang of manufacturers thought to be responsible for distributing a deadly mix of ecstasy. But from the outset things go wrong: the so-called 'big fish' of the drug world are barely more than teenagers. When their cook sets himself on fire and suffers severe burns, Stone goes in posing as a replacement drug cook.

STONE is masquerading as an arms buyer, dealing with a group of highly trained ex SAS Officers. CHURCH has infiltrated their group from the inside. As the sting is about to go down Stone is revealed as an undercover cop and taken hostage. The crim's leader executes a clever escape move and gets his entire team as well as Stone, out from under the noses of the surrounding Police.

Danni heads undercover into a brothel to track a hooker the unit has found in the company of a dead dealer they were about to bust. The prostitute is not your average two-bit tart and it soon becomes clear she earns her extra cash servicing high-flying clientele as a drug mule. Mackenzie decides they need a more direct approach and sends Stone in to do the job.

With the help of Angie's informant, Marty Engle, the Stingers attempt to catch a notorious drug dealer when the operation is thrown into chaos. A team of hooded men burst in on the deal, robbing the money Angie has paid for the drugs. The drug dealer swears vengeance and begins the search for the traitor in his ranks.

Mackenzie works closely with her old friend Vicki Quinlan, a forensic psychiatrist, to catch a serial killer. Working to a profile prepared by Vicki, the Undercover unit stake out a number of singles bars, using Danni as bait. When she's followed out of the club by Martin Steadman the unit are sure they have their man.

Stone is starting to believe his cancer is karmic payback or previous questionable behaviour. His problems escalate when Lauren turns up out of the blue wanting money in exchange for her continuing silence re their previous sexual congress. He soon discovers she is involved with the Rt. Hon. Jack Kranz, a former politician and morals crusader who is well connected in the corridors of power.

Church becomes convinced he is being stalked by a man who holds him responsible for the murder of his girlfriend. Fearing that he will be moved off the unit if he is compromised, he keeps his suspicions from Mackenzie, confiding only in Danni. But Mac becomes concerned about Church when he almost jeopardizes their current operation: cracking an illegal tobacco ring.

Church heads undercover as a shop owner in an attempt to bust a standover racket. But his efforts are brought to a standstill when one of the others is murdered. Feeling responsible for the death, Church is determined to nail the guilty party; Nigel Finster. He discovers Marty Engle is an associate of Finster's and sees an opportunity to get inside information.

Stone seems to be in the grips of a mental breakdown when he toys with committing suicide inside a grim motel room. But it proves a watershed moment for him, his behaviour taking another curious turn when he switches from suicidal to performing spontaneous acts of kindness to his fellow members of the Uni.

Mackenzie is contemplating ditching her comfortable but somehow unsatisfying relationship with Nick Jardine when back into her life walks Gene Rubin. It's apparent from the first that these two have an electric history; they became romantically involved as a result of an operation and when the bust went down, Rubin somehow managed to slip the net.
