DS Jenn Townsend, Morecambe Police’s Family Liaison Officer, is working late when an emergency call comes in. She races to the scene to find horror unfolding for a broken family, the Metcalfs. As they have to face their overwhelming loss, Jenn must gain their trust to help Manning and the MIU uncover the truth of what happened.

The Morecambe community rallies around the grieving Metcalf family. Jenn and the team find key evidence that all was not well in the Metcalf's home while Jenn’s own homelife is causing sleepless nights and disagreements with Chris.

The Metcalf kids struggle to cope with their loss while Dean surprises Jenn by pushing to return to work. Some CCTV evidence leads to a major development in the case while Chris and Erin’s disagreements reach new heights leaving Jenn frustrated.

Dean is confronted with another life changing event, and unable to deal with his grief, he returns to work. With tensions running high, Jenn fears Dean will do something he regrets. Distracted by her work, Jenn fails to see the troubles her own children are facing.

An old case puts a stop to Dean’s work plans and awakens insecurities for Manning, causing him to have second thoughts about his future in the force. The MIU is put under further pressure by the arrival of an assessor, from Divisional HQ, who puts their work practices under the microscope.

Jenn is determined to prove who attacked her family, she’s forced to focus on the cases in hand. As Manning questions his future plans, knowing that whatever he decides will have huge consequences.
