The Critical Hour: Shock Trauma

A boating accident lands a teen in the icy winter waters of the Chesapeake Bay. A Jehovah's Witness requires a life-saving blood transfusion, but the procedure is not allowed in her religion. A woman saves herself and her children from an apartment fire.

Warm weekend nights are busy at the Shock Trauma Center. As the temperature rises, tempers flare on the streets. Gunfire wounds several victims in unrelated shootings, and a homeless man is stabbed with a broken bottle.

School violence hits Baltimore's Shock Trauma staff hard as a random bullet hits a high school honor student. At another high school, an 18-year-old is violently stabbed as he leaves a dance, and complications arise for a young car crash victim.

When cars become weapons of destruction, Shock Trauma's first challenge is to save the life and then miraculously reconstruct a body torn apart. These crash out victims may not make it. If they do survive, their lives may be changed forever.

Interstate 95 in Maryland closes down after 92 vehicles are involved in accidents. Two of the most critically injured are transported by Medevac Trooper 1 to Shock Trauma after their small vehicle is crushed under a tractor trailer.

Even when his parachute opens, a skydiver gets in trouble when he takes an unexpected twist. An unconscious teen may be the victim of violence or an alcohol overdose, and a jockey's fall lands him in harm's way.

Tools and machines transform into body destroyers, and Baltimore's Shock Trauma has got to fix the damage. A circular saw cuts through a man's foot, intestine's are left outside a man's body by a hay bailer and a box cutter does unbelievable harm.

Hot weather in Baltimore kicks off an epidemic of violence, along with the simultaneous start of motorcycle season, and the Center gets slammed. Two motor bike accidents end with one man under a truck, and the other head slams into a guard rail.
