Vet David and vet nurse Caitlin are coming to the end of a quiet shift when an emergency lands on their lap. Stressed owner Kayleigh has arrived with her cat Dinah who has been hit by a car. After x-rays reveal a bad fracture, the team are confronted with late-night surgery that they have never attempted before.

An emergency unfolds in the car park of the large animal wing of the practice. Shepherdess Susan arrives with a heavily pregnant sheep that vet Eilidh soon discovers is expecting twins and has prolapsed.

Vet William faces a very unorthodox call out when a farmer needs help with one of his animals. The patient isn’t a cow or a sheep, but a red deer found unwell in a pig pen and has been adopted by one of the farmer’s cows. William is worried the young red deer may have a potentially fatal viral infection.

The recent blustery weather seems to be testing wildlife across Caithness, resulting in birds of prey needing veterinary help. Rebecca is called out to check on a tawny owl injured after being blown down a chimney.

At the practice, receptionist Lynda finds it hard to focus on her duties. Her beloved 3-year-old chihuahua Roo needs dental surgery. Even though experienced vet and friend Margaret is looking after Roo, Lynda finds it impossible to settle when she goes under the knife.

After dealing with the Common Seal patient, Ken returns to the small animal duties and has a delicate procedure to complete on a very special Labrador.

A rare visitor to the practice is vet Kirsty’s tricky patient. Bird keeper Trish found one of her peahens with a worrying injury to her eye after coming off second best in the pecking order.

Vet David is called to help Mackay the alpaca who is found limping by his owner. Meanwhile, Vet Ken is called out to help one of Martin’s heavily pregnant Highland cows.

Vet Margaret is called out to a farm in Castletown; her visit will define the outcome of farmer James’ next calving season. She is one of only a handful of vets qualified for the tricky job of semen testing bulls in The Scottish Highlands.

Button, the budgie arrives with a mystery lump under his wing. And Golden Retriever Peggy needs help after her owner notices a growth on her eyelid.

New Zealand breed Kunekune pig Gregor needs a procedure to make him a safer suitor to the farm’s four sows. His impressively long, curved tusks are excellent weapons in the wild but present a danger to his potential mates and owner Fiona.

Vet Ken heads out to a farm to complete essential tests on two pedigree Charolais Bulls. If they pass, both have buyers waiting in the wings. And there is a sad farewell as a much-loved colleague completes her final shift at the Thurso practice.
