Almost 2,000 years ago, heavily fortified border posts stretched across all of Europe - the Limes. Warships secured the river borders formed by the Rhine and the Danube, the "water Limes." Palisades, walls and trenches, four-meter high walls and "castells" of the Limes on land stretched across Germania, the wild "Barbaricum".
