When his father’s parish is threatened, Benedikt continues his streak of revolutionary ideas and proposes the separation of church and state, but nobody is on board. Meanwhile, Steinunn discovers news that will change her and Benedikt’s lives.

On his way to sign Eggert’s development deal in his hometown, Benedikt runs into an old flame, who inspires him to oppose the deal and go off the grid, infuriating his party. When Steinunn tracks him down, she learns the truth about his past.

Benedikt starts showing increasingly erratic behavior, abusing his power to stop a deportation and ruining Steinunn’s birthday party. As Benedikt spirals into mental instability, Grímur takes advantage of his vulnerability.
