When Thomas becomes cheeky with Percy, emotions run high and soon there is double trouble! Edward encounters his own troubles when a cow is on the track. Gordon and Henry tease Edward until they face their own moo-ving experience.

When Thomas isn't running, Bertie promises to bring his passengers to Edward. Impatient Edward has already left the station as Bertie arrives. Bertie is off on the chase to keep his promise. Then, Edward meets Trevor the Tractor Engine at the scrap yard. People think Trevor is old-fashioned and should be broken up. Edward gets help from some of his friends to save Trevor from being scrapped.

James thinks he is a truly splendid engine while Edward clanks about like an old iron. When some boys meddle with James' controls and he races away without a driver, it's Old Iron to the rescue. As Thomas meets Trevor, he's not sure he likes an engine that runs on the roads. While working to build Sir Topham Hatt's new harbor, Thomas learns how useful a traction engine can be.

Percy loves playing tricks on the big engines. When he's too cheeky with Gordon and James, they decide to teach him a lesson. They trick Percy into believing there is a new type of signal and Percy backs right into it. But when a new bigger engine arrives to help Percy in the yard, Henry, Gordon, and James try to order him about. And Duck shows them who is really in charge.

Harold the Helicopter loves the skies and thinks the railways are too slow to be of any use. Percy disagrees with Harold and challenges him to a race. Will Percy prove his point? Meanwhile, when Thomas returns to his branch line after being ill, Annie and Clarabel realize he's still in trouble. With his brakes not in proper working order, one small move turns Thomas into a runaway train.

Thomas warns Percy to pay attention to danger signs. When Percy ignores Thomas' warning, he ends up taking the plunge! Diesel arrives on the island to help out. Oily Diesel doesn't want to listen to Duck, as he believes diesels know all. When encountering some misbehaving freight cars, the wrong cars are pulled out and... pop goes the Diesel!

Oily Diesel decides to make trouble for Duck and lies to the freight cars. When they repeat Diesel's lies, Gordon, Henry, and James become angry at Duck. Duck's troubles continue when he chases after his runaway freight cars, narrowly avoiding a crash with James. While veering into a siding, Duck has a close shave with a barbershop.

Trouble on the tracks! Repairs on the railway were causing everyone to run late. Thomas was especially frustrated to be running behind schedule. After Thomas comes across a sidelined Bertie, he realizes that sometimes it is better late than never! And when Donald and Douglas, twin engines from Scotland, arrive on the island...there's double trouble for Sir Topham Hatt!

After Donald and Douglas come to Henry's rescue, the engines agree to a deputation to help the twins stay on the island. Meanwhile, Thomas thinks he's clever and doesn't need a driver. One morning Thomas decides to prove his point. But when he leaves the station without a driver, Thomas rolls into trouble...and the Stationmaster's breakfast!

Daisy the diesel arrives on the island to help out while Thomas is indisposed. But Daisy does what Daisy pleases, which does not please the other engines. When Percy pushes the quarry freight cars around, they decide to cause trouble. And Percy has quite a predicament!

Bill and Ben think a mysterious Diesel illness took their missing freight cars. After learning that BoCo had their cars in a siding, the twins play a maddening trick on him. Whereas proud Gordon thinks running a branch line is beneath him, being a proper mainline engine. When Gordon's conductor makes a mistake, Gordon ends up traveling along a branch line...much to his dismay.

While returning visitors to the station, Edward encounters rough weather and trouble! With determination and a little extra puff, Edward shows what a strong engine he can be. Meanwhile, when Thomas laughs off Percy's story of a ghost train, Percy decides to trick him. And before long, Thomas is running scared!

Percy is running late collecting hay. Trying to make up time, Percy races along the track and ends up in a sticky situation. While Thomas has his own troubles after picking up the Christmas tree special. When the snow drifts, he gets snowed under and goes missing. The engines race to rescue Thomas and Christmas!
