Waking the Dead

Thomas Rice, known as The Gambler, was jailed for murdering five women in the late 1980s. So when a stalker begins to harass the only living victim of the jailed serial killer, Boyd reinvestigates his pet theory that Thomas had a partner, who is still on the loose.

The team reinvestigates the unsolved murder of Home Office advisor Katherine Reed. Katherine was a prominent feminist academic who swapped sides to join the establishment. Boyd and the team discover a trail of intrigue that leads all the way to the top.

The team's quest to find the murderer is leading them further up the political ladder. Government secrecy does not make their life easy. Pressure is applied from above as Boyd closes on his quarry. Grace tries to urge Boyd to be cautious but he ignores her and risks his career to get to the truth.

Beautiful 18-year-old Joanna Gold famously disappeared in broad daylight on Hampstead Heath in 1989. Now her famous red dress has been discovered in a lock-up in Kings Cross. Boyd is certain that when he finds the owner of the lock-up, he'll have found Joanna's murderer.
