The clear blue waters that surround the Caribbean islands are home to some of the world's most stunning underwater environments. Coral reefs form beautiful marine gardens are visited by horse-eye jacks, blue tangs and stingrays, while dolphins come to the shallows to feed and humpback whales come to play. These are the hidden treasures waiting to be found in the Caribbean Sea.

From the beginning of June until the end of November, the Caribbean hurricane season brings winds of over 150 mph, 5 meter storm surges and torrential rain, making hurricanes one of the most feared forces of nature. Forests are flattened, coral reefs pummeled and beaches washed away - so how do the plants and animals survive this onslaught year after year?

We explore the least known Caribbean, that area beyond the Sea, in a journey along the greatest Caribbean shoreline of all, that of Central America. From the Panama Canal and the Mosquito Coast of Nicaragua to the Blue Hole cenotes of Yucatan in Mexico, this is a uniquely varied coastline. The jewel in its crown is the Barrier Reef that hugs the coastline of Mexico, Belize and Honduras.
