In 2007, single mother of three Paige Birgfeld went missing. Police in Grand Junction, Colorado investigating her disappearance discovered she'd been secretly working as an escort and suspected one of her clients of abducting and killing her.

In 1999 and 2000, John Eric Armstrong cruised the streets of Detroit, Michigan looking for sex workers. Seen as an ordinary husband, father and co-worker, no one in Armstrong's life suspected that he was a serial killer.

Along with his accomplice, Frank Cano, Steven Dean Gordon murdered at least four sex workers in California between 2012 and 2013. The body of Gordon's fourth victim was found in a pile of trash on a conveyor belt at a recycling centre.

Wayne Adam Ford is an American serial killer who strangled and dismembered three of his four victims. The first body was found in October 1997 and had been so thoroughly dismembered that her identity remains unknown.

When Mary Gough was found dead at the bottom of her stairs in her family home, her husband Colin Whelan appeared shocked. But a postmortem revealed her injuries weren't consistent with a fall. Whelan had murdered her for an insurance payout.

In March 2005, the gardaí recovered human body parts from the Royal Canal in Dublin. The victim's head was missing. He was identified as Farah Swaleh Noor, a Kenyan with a history of violence against women.
