In 2007, single mother of three Paige Birgfeld went missing. Police in Grand Junction, Colorado investigating her disappearance discovered she'd been secretly working as an escort and suspected one of her clients of abducting and killing her.

In 1999 and 2000, John Eric Armstrong cruised the streets of Detroit, Michigan looking for sex workers. Seen as an ordinary husband, father and co-worker, no one in Armstrong's life suspected that he was a serial killer.

Along with his accomplice, Frank Cano, Steven Dean Gordon murdered at least four sex workers in California between 2012 and 2013. The body of Gordon's fourth victim was found in a pile of trash on a conveyor belt at a recycling centre.

In January 1973, 20-year-old mother of one Dawn Magyar vanished while on a shopping trip in Owosso, Michigan. Two months later her body was discovered in nearby woods. She had been raped and shot three times.

Over a 25-year career of murder, Richard Biegenwald killed at least six people, but he is suspected of many more murders. Imprisoned in 1958 aged just 18 for shooting dead a grocery store owner, Biegenwald was released 17 years later.

When police in Aurora, Colorado found the body of a young man in in his own home with a bullet wound to the head, it didn't take long for them to pinpoint his friend, Richard Paul White, as the suspect.

Billy Mansfield Jr. moved between Florida and Michigan, targeting vulnerable women and girls. Between 1975 and 1980, Mansfield Jr. murdered at least five victims, burying four of them at his family home in Spring Hill, Florida.

Wayne Adam Ford is an American serial killer who strangled and dismembered three of his four victims. The first body was found in October 1997 and had been so thoroughly dismembered that her identity remains unknown.

In 2022, Danville Neil was finally jailed for the brutal 1993 murders of a WWII veteran and his sister. Neil broke into the elderly siblings' flat in East London, bound them and beat them before smothering Billy to death.

In April 1997, 27-year-old Rachel McGrath was stabbed to death by an unknown attacker in a car park. 24 hours later and 100 miles away, a terrified 17-year-old student flagged down a motorist, telling them she'd just escaped from a man.

In October 2004, Rachel O'Reilly left her home to drop her children off at school. Less than 20 minutes after returning home she was murdered. Her husband, Joe O'Reilly, staged the crime scene to make it look like a burglary gone wrong.

When Mary Gough was found dead at the bottom of her stairs in her family home, her husband Colin Whelan appeared shocked. But a postmortem revealed her injuries weren't consistent with a fall. Whelan had murdered her for an insurance payout.

In March 2005, the gardaí recovered human body parts from the Royal Canal in Dublin. The victim's head was missing. He was identified as Farah Swaleh Noor, a Kenyan with a history of violence against women.

Catherine Nevin and her husband Tom were successful publicans and property developers in the Dublin and Wicklow areas. Catherine reported a break-in and violent attack at their pub one night in 1996, which left Tom dead.
