Julia’s disappointing 60th birthday turns around when she meets handsome young Benjamin at the British Museum. After a few days together, Julia decides it’s time to introduce Benjamin to her three adult children: Patrick, Leo, and Della.

After a confrontation with her ex-husband, Ted, at Julia’s stately home in Devon, Julia and Benjamin decide to get away. In London, Julia meets Benjamin’s friends, but it still seems like he has something to hide. Patrick asks Della for help in proving Benjamin is a con man, but Della is distracted by the return of her ex-girlfriend.

Benjamin meets Marsha, Julia’s ex-best friend and the woman with whom Ted had an affair, on the 10-year anniversary of the death of Marsha’s husband. Later, Patrick and Della bring Julia purported evidence of Benjamin’s infidelity.

Julia accepts Ben’s marriage proposal but is reluctant to share the news at first. She eventually spills the beans to her kids over an already tense Christmas dinner. The morning after, she informs Ted, who makes his own rash decision.

The family is shocked when Benjamin’s half-brother turns up unexpectedly at Leo’s 25th birthday party. With the help of Marsha’s daughter, Leo embarks on a scheme to bring his parents back together, but the plan backfires.

After discovering that Benjamin is not who he says he is, Julia returns to Devon and avoids seeing him. On her wedding day, Julia confronts Ted about that night long ago. When she disappears, Benjamin searches for her, fearing the worst.
