Journey to the West

A monkey is born from a rock on top of a mountain in China. The Stone Monkey goes to live with a group of monkeys in the forest. He must confront the question of the meaning of life.

The Stone Monkey witnesses the suffering of an old and sick monkey and learns about death. He decides to find the secret to immortality.

The Stone Monkey travels to a city to find someone who knows how to live forever. After learning about lies and greed, he becomes disillusioned with the human world.

The Stone Monkey travels West to a temple. He meets Subh?ti, an old monk, who believes the monkey was born to do great things. Subh?ti renames him Sun Wukong.

Wukong stays at the temple for several years, learning the basics and high skills of martial arts.

Wukong visits the palace of the Dragon King under the sea. He takes a powerful weapon but shows his desires have no limits.

Wukong is taken to the underworld to meet his fate. Unhappy with this outcome, he has other plans.

Now immoprtal, Wukong fights his way to the Buddha who offers Wukong a deal ? if he can leap out of the Buddha's palm, he can take the seat of the Jade Emperor, king of the heavens.

Five hundred years later, a faithful monk, Tripitaka, is tasked with finding and delivering the Buddhist scriptures.

Tripitaka encounters many hardships on his journey. Finally, he frees Sun Wukong from the mountain, and together, they go on the journey to the West.
