April 1970. Das Unternehmen "Apollo 13" soll ein Routineflug zum Mond werden. Da geht im Kontrollzentrum Houston ein Funkspruch von der Raumkapsel ein, demzufolge einer der Sauerstoff-Tank explodiert ist. Doch das ist nicht alles. Die Rakete verliert obendrein Treibstoff und das Luftfiltersystem droht auszufallen.
