Looking for Rembrandt

Rembrandt arrives in Amsterdam "like a thunderclap" and his star rises as he is courted by the city's wealthy elite. But he has grander plans to be a great history painter. His meticulous attention to emotion means he takes far too long to complete important commissions, and he falls foul of Amsterdam.

As Rembrandt paints his most iconic work, The Night Watch, and is at the height of his fame, his wife Saskia lay dying. Her death begins a 10 year decline in Rembrandt's output of paintings, as he pours himself into etching instead.

Facing bankruptcy and debtor's prison, Rembrandt pulls a scheme to provide for his family in his twilight years. Unfortunately, while his art never suffers, both his reputation and family end up paying the ultimate price.
