Ryo Arikino is assigned to interpret for a Chinese suspect at the International Investigation Division of the East Shinjuku Police Department. His routine is disrupted when he meets Mari Koda, an eccentric green-haired detective, who ropes him into searching for a missing woman named Candy. Their search soon reveals the involvement of a shady figure behind Candy's disappearance.© NHK

Koda is investigating a Sri Lankan man accused of stealing bicycle batteries. Meanwhile, Iiyama, Shakuno, and Arikino are working on a much larger theft case involving foreigners from multiple nationalities. They pursue a former gangster who Koda happens to encounter while investigating the person behind the battery theft. Arikino goes beyond his role as an interpreter to save Koda.© NHK

Koda hears that Arikino may have leaked information about a police scandal three years ago. Meanwhile, a baby is kidnapped, and Arikino is called to interpret for the baby's Chinese mother. As Arikino shares Koda about his upbringing between China and Japan, Koda decides to trust him. One day, Koda encounters a Chinese man. The clock ticks away since Shun’s kidnapping. Everyone involved in the case, including Yanagi and Arikino, grows increasingly frustrated. Wang and a Chinese woman attempt to return to the mainland using passports provided by Volunteer. However, when ordered to take Shun with them, Wang senses the child’s life is in danger and decides to betray Volunteer by seeking Koda’s help.© NHK

In a senior care home, a resident's tablet was stolen. Koda questions Vietnamese worker Tien. The Vietnamese interpreter, Imai, notices bruises on Tien's body, leading Koda to suspect that Tien may have been assaulted. Meanwhile, Arikino encourages Imai, who is overwhelmed by the harsh realities of foreign workers. Koda's investigation eventually leads her to Tien's "friend" Susumu.© NHK

In early 2000s Fukuoka, young Mari Koda meets Soohyun at a Korean grocery store. Mari is captivated by the Korean foods, many of which share names similar to Japanese dishes. Nearly 20 years later, Koda shares her bittersweet memories of Soohyun with Arikino, along with her deep desire not to give up on anyone. As she speaks, Arikino finds a connection between Koda and Satoru Oda.© NHK

Koda is partnered with Agawa, recently transferred to her division. He quickly earns her respect, but Koda discovers that Agawa was responsible for the misinterpretation incident from three years ago. This revelation, along with a series of events, including a key witness' death, brings Sergeant Oda into focus, eventually uncovering Oda and Arikono’s involvement.© NHK

In 2009, Oda lived a troubled life with Baijie. Persuaded by Officer Toyozumi to start over, Oda became a police officer, where he met Arikino. In the present, Koda is shocked to learn that Oda ended his own life after leaking information about misinterpretation. Arikino continues to avoid Koda, who is drawn ever closer to his past. Arikino finally confides in Koda about his relationship with Oda. Hearing of his grief over losing his love and his resentment toward Agawa and the force, Koda encourages Arikino to look toward the future. Meanwhile, Koda confronts Agawa. The next day, Agawa goes after Volunteer alone, leaving Koda a letter of confession. Koda searches for Agawa, but when she finally finds him...© NHK
