The World Does Not Exist

Adam Vollmann, a journalist who has forged a new identity, spends his days behind a screen for the Web editorial office of the daily Aujourd'hui demain. One morning, he learns of a murder in his hometown. Shaken by the news, he asked to be sent out into the field, landing in Guerches-sur-Isoire in northern France.

As his editor urges him to send in an article, Adam receives mysterious anonymous messages and is confronted by his former stalkers, who don't recognize him. His mother's death, meanwhile, arouses guilt in him that he dares not face. Recalling his friendship with Axel Challe, he finds the hiding place the latter had revealed to him.

Adam files a complaint against his attackers. The gendarme, a former high school classmate, tells him about a new clue discovered in the Lola Montès case. Eager to help Adam, Fafa shares recent discoveries about Lola's past, but secrets seem to be well kept. Watching videos, Adam discovers that Axel's wife Sarah is concealing an affair.

Axel and Adam have arranged to meet. But their reunion is disrupted by the arrival of journalist Janine Tutor, who has been stalking Adam since his arrival. When the local newspaper reveals her true identity, Adam is once again beaten up. As a film crew sets up at his home for a series of location scouts, he begins to doubt the reality of all these events.
