In the first part of the series, we travel back to the Europe of over a thousand years ago, to discover what it meant to be a Viking during the Viking Age. We also meet the team behind the present day excavations, and understand the process of exhuming one of the most exciting archaeological finds of recent times.

Part two of the documentary explores the study of the Vikings' remains and the surprising findings. Viking Age researcher Neil Price takes us to Sweden, the likely origin of the Vikings found in Saaremaa. We also examine theories about what happened 1,300 years ago and why 41 Vikings, along with their magnificent possessions, were given such a spectacular ship burial.
