As Max gets ready for bed, Moon turns the light off and tells him to 'sleep tight.' Max claims that 'sleeping tight' doesn't sound comfortable to him at all! Moon puts Max at ease by explaining how the phrase came about.

Moon gets ready for a school play. Her role is a British high court judge and her costume includes a fancy, huge wig. Max notices the big wig and makes an important connection between the two words.

Max sings loudly while Moon tries to read. Moon tells Max to "put a sock in it" and Max takes this literally.

Max is nervous as he prepares to take the stage in a school play. Backstage, Moon wishes Max good luck by telling him to "break a leg." Max freaks out because he imagines Moon wants him to literally break his leg.

Max reads a news article. The headline says "Boycott a success." Max and Moon discuss the word "boycott" and the historical person for whom it's named.

Max and Moon play chess. Max puts Moon's king in checkmate. Moon is surprised at first but accepts defeat. She tells Max he "won hands down."

Max and Moon read an article about someone getting fired for cheating. Max imagines this person literally set on fire. Moon tells him being "fired" means to be dismissed from a job.

Max receives a message on his computer. The message says the computer is infected and Max must download special software. Moon stops him, telling Max she "smells a rat."

Max holds a book above his head. Moon asks why he is studying this way. Max says it's because she told him to "keep it up." Max took it literally, when Moon only meant to encourage him to keep studying.

Max loses a race because another competitor passes the finish line in the "nick of time." Max thinks Moon is referring to Nick, the race winner. What she really meant was Nick won just in time, at the last possible moment.

Max is playing a computer game when his screen freezes. Moon tells Max not having internet access "gets her goat," too. Max thinks someone took a goat he didn't even know Moon had. Moon explains that when you find something annoying, it gets your goat.

Max is excited to find a flyer offering half-priced video games until he reads the fine print. He must buy older video games in order to get the discount. Moon tells Max, there's no such thing as a free lunch,meaning you don't get something for nothing.

Max tries to put back together his robot but can't seem to figure out what to do next. Moon tells him he's "back to square one," which means he has returned to his original starting point.

Max is angry because he was supposed to play basketball, but his friend Jack invited boys from the school's basketball team. Max fumes because these other boys are taller and shoot better. Max rants and Moon tells him he has a "chip on his shoulder."

It's a beautiful day outside, but Max is sad because he receive a poor mark on his science test. Moon tries to cheer Max up by pointing out a cumulonimbus cloud, often referred to as 'cloud nine,' which is a saying if you're really happy.

Moon draws a cartoon for the school newspaper. She tells Max she is a "freelancer." Max asks Moon what she means by "freelancer." Moon tells Max a freelancer is a person who is self-employed and does contract work for anyone who pays them.

Max wants to asks Moon for a favor but keeps hesitating. Moon tells Max to stop "beating around the bush" and get to the point.

Max is watching a commercial about a potion that will make you live forever. Moon doesn't believe it, but Max is still convinced. Moon tells him he's taking it 'hook, line, and sinker', which means to completely believe in something that is not true.

Max and Moon want to have a dinner party, but they don't have enough food in the house. Moon suggested they have a potluck, which is when everyone who comes the party brings their own food and it will all contribute to the meal.

At an ice cream shop, customers are allowed two scoops and unlimited toppings. Moon tells Max the toppings are "fair game." Max thinks he has to play a game to take more toppings. What Moon really means is the toppings are free to take.

Max blows up balloons to get ready for his best friend's birthday. Max tells Moon he will also decorate the house and bake her a cake. Moon is impressed. She tells Max he's "pulling out all the stops" to make sure she has a good birthday.

Moon waits outside a classroom for Max. All of a sudden, Max comes running up to tell Moon he got lost trying to find the building. At first, Moon doesn't believe Max, but then says his explanation "rings true," which means it's real or genuine.

Moon is getting ready to bake cookies with Max. Max wonders why they just can't buy cookies at the store and Moon said she wants to "start from scratch," which means starting from the beginning with no preparation or advantage.

Max and Moon are at the zoo. Max is determined to find an exotic animal with two heads to win a bet with a classmate. Moon tells Max his classmate sent him on a "wild goose chase," which means looking for something that you won't find.
