Okhtyrka was one of the first places to be occupied by the Russians following their invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. As the Russian tanks rolled passed the church, the locals rushed to take refuge in the church. They slept, they prayed, they ate and they kept the community together.

Mariia Zatseva lives in Irpin, just outside Kyiv. When the Russians invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, they reached Irpin within hours. The death and destruction that took place in Irpin over the next few weeks will go down in history as some of the worst atrocities ever. Maria lost all 3 of her cafes as well as her employees. Irina and Viktoriia are sisters and together they had opened their restaurant in Irpin. Within days of the Russian invasion, the entire neighbourhood where the restaurant was located was on fire. They have lost everything, but with courage and determination they still feed the locals outside their destroyed restaurant and try their best to keep the community together.

Anastasia and Vadym thought they had arrived. Their teams were complete, until the Russians ended that dream on February 24, 2022. Their restaurant completely destroyed, they now plan to restart and feed the local community to help build Ukraine's future.

Dima and Elvira had a successful restaurant right in the centre of Mariupol. On February 24, 2022, that all ended. Their restaurant was raised to the ground, their employees lost their lives and their homes were destroyed. After a seeking refuge, they ended up in Kyiv where they are setting up their humanitarian kitchen to feed the community and rebuild Ukraine.

Vera Horncharuk is a national hero in Ukraine. Her home was bombed and her kitchen destroyed. The only thing that survived was her wood burning oven. Determined to help, the 83 year old rebuilt her oven and started to cook bread and pies for the locals to try and keep the community together.
